On the eve of Anime NYC, the Japan Society partnered with the event to host the first-ever American Anime Awards ceremony. Hosted by writer and localizer Matt Alt, the ceremony inducted translator and writer Frederick L. Schodt into the American Manga Awards Hall of Fame and announced the winners in six main categories.
